When Cyrano's (the area's first European-style coffeehouse) first introduced its flavored coffees, decadent gourmet desserts and small-portioned entrées to St. Louis in 1960, it became a favorite date and hangout spot. But Cyrano's closed its doors in 1996 only to reopen in 2003 when a group of nostalgic restaurateurs reinvented the beloved spot as a café and wine bar. Now just as popular as the original, the new Cyrano's features a coffee bar, lounge and dining room decorated with some of the original restaurant's mirrors, artwork and antiques. The seasonal menu offers stellar small plates and entrées, but the main event is still dessert. The acknowledged-by-name queen is the chocolate-encased Cleopatra sundae with French vanilla ice cream, bananas, fresh strawberries and dark chocolate, but the menu also includes flambés for two, éclairs, tortes, puddings and cakes. Full bar. Serving lunch and dinner daily. Late-night Fri–Sat. Sun brunch 11 am–3 pm.
