McGurk's Irish pub has been a Soulard neighborhood staple since 1974. Exuding Irish pride and hospitality, the traditional brick and wood pub offers a charming atmosphere enhanced by live Irish music nightly. There's also a sizable outdoor patio and bar that's great for summer nights. An extensive beer list (more than 60, including perfectly drawn Guinness by the glass) consistently draws regulars, and the authentic Irish pub food menu extends well beyond the commonplace. Starters include toasted ravioli, pan-seared crab cakes and chicken wings. Entrées include crunchy fish and chips flash-fried in a buttermilk batter and served with a creamy tartar sauce. Try the Gaelic filet in a tart whiskey reduction, or the blissfully simple Guinness stew with beef tips, potatoes and carrots. Irish coffee made with house-made whipped cream, warm whiskey bread pudding and Bailey's cheesecake are among after-dinner options. Named one of America's best bars by Esquire magazine. Full bar.
