Dining at one of the area's best Thai restaurant means a trip to retail megalopolis Cool Springs. The superlative Jasmine – located on the east side of I-65 across from the main shopping mall – is well worth it. Chef/owner Bobby Kornsuwan, who's either related to or has worked with most of the owners of the region's top Thai eateries, opened his own place several years ago with an eye to more adventurous and creative fare. He succeeds admirably. Recommended starters include fried crab cakes and vegetable spring rolls. All the salads shine, headed by the meal-initself Patong salad (seared shrimp, scallops, mussels and squid with sweet chili, and coriander vinaigrette and baby greens). For lunch, various curry dishes or the pad thai are recommended. But nighttime's the right time to visit Jasmine, when dinner-only entrée specialties are featured. Topping the list is the sublime pla pad cha, which is crispy chunks of fried perch sautéed with curry paste, pickle rhizome, kaffir lime leaf and notably exquisite string beans. Try to leave room for something sweet from a short but appealing dessert menu, which includes sticky rice with custard, fried bananas, lychees, and mango or coconut ice cream. Beer, wine and sake available. Serving lunch Mon–Sat, dinner nightly.
