Suburban Goodlettsville, just off Interstate 65 North and in the shadow of the sprawling Rivergate Mall complex, counts mainly chains among its dining choices. Then there's Chef's Market. Its interior is a cross between Southern tearoom, grab-your-tray meat-and-three, and knickknack-laden upscale Cracker Barrel. Rest assured Chef's Market's kitchen produces gourmet comfort food that rivals the best its Nashville culinary cousins have to offer 20 miles south. Menu choices run from hearty soups (a super-loaded clam chowder is a highlight), salads, wraps and sandwiches to a short but distinguished list of hot entrées. The beef pot roast may even be better than Mom used to make (sorry, Mom), and the portions of it and the Calypso roasted pork loin and chicken Jerusalem are enough to share among at least two hungry eaters. If you're lucky, hearty hot side items of the day will include perhaps the area's best mashed sweet potatoes. The servers have the art of takeout packaging mastered – not much chance your excellent yeast roll will arrive home soggy from the pot roast's brown gravy – and you conveniently pay at the door on your way out. Kids' menu. No alcohol available. Serving lunch and dinner Mon–Sat. Closed Sun.
