The last surviving 1840s townhouse in downtown Nashville, The Standard at the Smith House boasts a history as rich and as varied as the city's itself, as detailed nicely on the restaurant's website. The Smith family's beautiful restoration has resulted in what undoubtedly is among the city's most handsome, relaxing dining rooms since a 2006 reopening. More recently, former Watermark chef Joe Shaw has revived a menu that's now long on Southern comfort and short on the trendy, and in August 2009 former 360 Bistro/Wildwood Oak Fired Kitchen chef John David Crow took over the kitchen. Highlights can include chicken salad, crab bisque, pecan-crusted chicken, shrimp and grits, pan-fried trout, braised rabbit and double-cut pork chop, and a particularly refreshing fruit tea. Street parking (free after 6 pm and on weekends) and free parking between the painted yellow bars in a lot across the street. Full bar. Serving dinner Tue–Sat. Closed Sun–Mon.
