There's a ritual involved in a visit to the downtown Arcade's House of Pizza, which consistently and deservedly draws praise for having some of the best pizza in Nashville. You place your order – a slice, a whole pie, a magnificently fat stuffed stromboli, a meatball sub or recommended multi-decked lasagna – then you pay. Then you wait along the wall as cooks toil in front of the gigantic pizza ovens. Then you hold your cardboard serving box high above your head as you weave your way either back out the front door or to the back dining area. (Three intimate, cubbyholelike tables fill up first.) We prefer the thin-crust, New York-style pizza, although the thick-crust Sicilian is head and shoulders above any other thick variety in town. Proprietor and Brooklyn transplant Manny Macca rules the downtown site, with younger brother Joey at the helm in suburban Brentwood at Joey's House of Pizza, with another Joey's in Spring Hill.
