Tucked in a corner of Fort Worth's Sundance Square downtown shopping district is the friendly Billy Miner's Saloon. Order a cold beverage, grab a bucket of peanuts from an old washtub, then order a grilled hot dog, hamburger or some spicy chicken wings. Photos abound of the celebrated train robber, Billy Miner, who spent over a third of his life in jail but is said to have accomplished his criminal goals nonviolently. The saloon claims he's a "genuine folk hero." Well, at least this place has genuinely fine bar food. Place your order at the counter, and when your name is called, take your hot dog or burger over to the condiment table and top it your way. Choose from lettuce, tomatoes, onions, pickles, sauerkraut, hot cheese dips, relish, jalapeños, sprouts and dressing. Locals also rave about the cheese-covered steak fries, which are a mix of thick and thin cuts with remnants of potato skin. Other favorite items on the simple menu include catfish, grilled chicken sandwiches, chili, stuffed jalapeños, nachos, beans and chips. The margaritas are worth sampling. Kids are welcome, but the bar gets packed and rowdy on big game days or weekend evenings. Free Xbox play. Full bar. Serving lunch and dinner daily. Late-night Fri–Sat.
