Although North End locals will perpetually bicker about the best bakery in their Italian-American neighborhood, Mike's Pastry, with its iconic blue and white pastry boxes, is unquestionably adored by many locals and visitors alike. Annette and Mike Mercogliano's big bakery, founded in 1943, sits in the center of Hanover Street, the North End's busiest drag. Throughout the year, especially in the summer and on weekends, customers with cannoli on their minds jam the place, and lines regularly reach the sidewalk. But it's not just the cannoli. Mike's also serves those darling, little pink and green leaf-shaped cookies, gelato, slices of rum cake and tiramisu, and marzipan molded into the shape of fruits and vegetables. Sit at one of the café tables with a frothy cappuccino and watch the neighborhood go by, or have your treats packed up in one of those cute boxes. No alcohol available. Serving during breakfast, lunch and dinner hours daily.
