The sale of this venerable Central Square joint had many locals worried. Would Green Street Grill, with its great Caribbean food and late-night live music, become another nondescript trendy bar? When new owner Dylan Black, a Cambridge native and former bartender at a number of local restaurants and bars, bought the place, he got rid of the music but created a line of cocktails to match the spicy, tropical menu. He also cleaned up the interior. The place retains a pleasant, low-key vibe, although it's somehow quieter while more stylish, with pendant lighting over the bar and deep colors on the walls. Though the bathroom décor and the banquette upholstery changed, the chef and the food have stayed the same. Ingredients such as red beans and rice, Scotch bonnet peppers, jicama, plantains and curry appear throughout the dishes on the menu. (Be advised that the chef can really lay on the heat.) An appetizer of grilled shrimp, chorizo and yucca comes with an orange-garlic mojito sauce, jerk-rubbed chicken wings with a coconut-lime sauce. For entrées, a grilled striped bass comes with jicama slaw and fried plantains, and the coconut curried goat stew is a fiery trademark here. Whether you're trying out some of barman Black's new cocktails or sipping from the newly expanded wine list, the only thing you might miss at the new Green Street is the live music, but that's easy to fix in Central Square. Full bar. Serving dinner nightly.
